Every painting is like a puzzle to be solved, with challenges and problems to be worked through. Often starting small is a way to work through some of the issues, before moving onto a larger canvas. Over the years Dix Baines has painted a number of 5x7 miniatures both to preview images for possible larger paintings and to sell at one of our two annual 5x7 auctions. The second of the auctions, "Notes and Brushstrokes," is always held the second Saturday of November and this year's event will be in two weeks on Saturday, November 12th. Typically, a dozen unframed, original oil paintings are offered, with beginning bids of $150. As they come off the easel, they are posted on the Studio Auctions page on this website and are opened for bidding. Here is a look back at some of the miniatures that turned into larger original oil paintings. -Kathlyn Gogarty-Baines "First Light on Cow Camp" 9" x 12" oil on panel $1300 Available through the McLarry Fine Art Gallery @ 505.988.1161 "Adobe Light on Ranchos de Taos" 30" x 22" oil on panel $5300 Available through the McLarry Fine Art Gallery @ 505.988.1161 "Sky Pond" 24" x 30" oil on board $5400

Thanks for sharing the article, and more importantly, your personal experience of mindfully using our emotions as data about our inner state and knowing when it’s better to de-escalate by taking a time out are great tools. Appreciate you reading and sharing your story since I can certainly relate and I think others can to

Dix Baines“I am drawn to the things which speak to the senses; the light and atmosphere of landscapes, the impressions of a moment or place, and the spirit of nature and of people. It is important to me to strive as an artist to paint a variety of subjects and to paint each equally well. I paint often on location, or from life. Whether researching sporting life images, landscapes, or places from abroad, painting directly from the subject is essential to capturing the impression of what I see.” -DIX BAINES Archives
