The point from starting a painting to completion is never a straight line. In my mind, as the non-artist, it should be a straight and quick line from painting beginning to painting end, but that is not quite how it happens. It seems to be a bit more like traveling a very crooked path, with committments from shows, commissions, and galleries pulling the artist off the straight course of start to fnish. And of course  there is that little thing called inspiration. Somedays, the one at the easel feels more like painting a mountain scene than a waterscape. Dix Baines likes to have several paintings going at the same time for this very reason. This particular painting started on June 18th of this year and has now found it's way back on the easel, where it has been throughout the week. Personally, I love this painting. I love everything about it from the format to the color, not to mention that it is the view looking west across Sky Pond at Dix Baines Studio. Colorado sunsets are inspirational and unless you have seen one, you may not quite believe that yes they really are this color. -Kathlyn Gogarty-Baines

“I am drawn to the things which speak to the senses; the light and atmosphere of landscapes, the impressions of a moment or place, and the spirit of nature and of people. It is important to me to strive as an artist to paint a variety of subjects and to paint each equally well. I  paint often on location, or from life.  Whether researching sporting life images, landscapes, or places from abroad, painting directly from the subject is essential to capturing the impression of what I see.” -DIX BAINES
