This paintings was a struggle from the get go, but in viewing the completed piece, it was definitely worth the effort. When growing up, Dix's Mom had him memorize the quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson: "That which we persist in doing becomes easier, not that the nature of the task has changed, but our ability to do has increased." Good thing that he persisted on this piece, as it is extraordinary. The magic than can often be found on a high mountain lake is captured here in this painting. The color, the light, the peace are all found in this painting and transport the viewer away from day to day life, to a place of refreshment and peace.
